Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to your questions

How does Buildscout help me get construction leads?

Our platform lets you send targeted, personalised letters to new planning applications or permissions in your area. By focusing your outreach efforts on high-potential leads who’ve recently been granted (or applied for) planning permission, you maximise your chances of securing new business.

What types of construction projects can I target with Buildscout?

Whether you’re interested in single-storey residential extensions within a 10-mile radius of your place of work, or large commercial developments of 50+ units in a 100-mile radius… Our platform lets you build campaigns that suit your business.

How do I create a campaign on Buildscout?

Simply select the type of jobs you’d like to target and specify the distance you’re willing to travel. Once you’ve done this, choose a personalised letter from our library of conversion-optimised templates (or upload your own). Finally, set your follow-up frequency and then sit back and wait for the phone to start ringing.

How does Buildscout help me track my leads?

Tracking your leads within the Buildscout platform is simple and hassle-free. Simply mark leads as “responded” and we’ll stop sending automated follow-ups. No complex CRM or other pipeline software needed.

Can I run multiple campaigns simultaneously on Buildscout?

Yes, you can run multiple side-by-side campaigns on Buildscout. Set up multiple campaigns in minutes so you can double double down on winners and maximise your return on investment.

How does Buildscout compare to traditional advertising methods?

Buildscout helps builders win work earlier in the process by using planning data to identify homeowners who are actively preparing to build or renovate. Instead of advertising to a broad audience, you’re targeting people with real, upcoming projects often before they’ve started contacting multiple contractors.

Traditional advertising (like Google Ads, directories, or flyers) tends to generate mixed-quality leads and higher competition, as you’re reaching people later in their journey. Buildscout focuses on precision and timing, helping you secure better-quality enquiries with less competition and more control over pricing.

How do we make a difference and stand out from all other marketing through the door?
  • First, timing. Your business reaches homeowners at the exact moment they’re planning work, before they’ve chosen who to carry out the work.
  • Second, quality. We professionally design personalised, high-quality marketing at no extra cost, positioning your business as a trusted, premium service, not generic advertising.
  • Third, early insight. Our platform identifies right-fit planning applications early, allowing you to reach homeowners before most competitors are even aware of the opportunity.
Isn't the submission stage too early?

No, reaching homeowners at the submission stage actually gives you a competitive advantage. At this point, homeowners are actively planning work but haven’t committed to a contractor, so you have the opportunity to position yourself as a practical expert and build trust before anyone else.

What is a campaign?

A campaign is a key part of your Buildscout account. It sets the area you want to target, the types of leads you’re going after, and the marketing you’ll send, plus when it goes. You can have up to 3 campaigns set up at any one time. Once a campaign is set up it can be changed if needed.

Why are there 3 campaigns in each package?

We include 3 campaigns in each package in case you want to have different offerings or specifically target different types of leads. This means you can get the most out of each package and be as targeted as you want.

Why does the cost per letter send change in each package?

The cost per letter decreases as you move up the packages because higher packages typically see a higher volume of letters. This allows us to offer better economies of scale, meaning you get a lower cost per send while reaching more potential leads.

Are there any other payment options apart from upfront payments?

We currently only offer up front payments on all our packages. We do however have an exclusive, limited time offer only available to FMB members, where you can pay monthly.

What are the differences between the packages?

The main differences between each package are:

  • Cost
  • Amount of coverage for a campaign
  • Cost per letter send

Higher-tier packages allow you to reach more potential leads at a lower cost per letter, helping you generate more opportunities from your outreach.

Do you offer a national coverage package?

Yes, we can provide national coverage if you want to target opportunities across the UK rather than a specific region. This is ideal for companies operating nationally or those looking to expand into new areas.

Do I have to send letters? Can I use Buildscout for just the data?

No, you don’t have to send letters. If you prefer, you can use Buildscout purely for the data and insights to support your own outreach methods to homeowners and architects, such as email, phone, or your internal marketing campaigns.
